About

The capital cities, royal tombs and nobles’ tombs of the Koguryo kingdom lie in the city of Ji’an under Tonghua, Jilin, and in Huanren County, Liaoning. In July 2004 they were inscribed on the World Heritage List, as was the Complex of Koguryo Tombs in North Korea.

The property comprises three capital cities, 14 royal tombs and 26 nobles’ tombs.

Cities: Wunü Mountain City, Guonei City and Wandu Mountain City.

Royal tombs: Maxian tombs 0626, 2100 and 2378, the Qianqiu and Xida tombs, Qixingshan tombs 0211 and 0871, the Taiwang Tomb with the stele of King Haotai, the Linjiang Tomb, Yushan tombs 2110 and 0992, and the General’s Tomb with its accompanying tomb no. 1.

Nobles’ tombs: the Wrestlers’ Tomb, the Dancers’ Tomb, the Manger Tomb, the Wang-character Tomb, the Ring Pattern Tomb, the Ranmou Tomb, the Scattered Lotus Tomb, Changchuan tombs 1, 2 and 4, Yushan tombs 3319 and 2112, Wukuifen tombs 1 to 5, the Four Deities Tomb, Sikuifen tombs 1 to 4, the Elder and Younger Brother tombs, the Folded Ceiling Tomb and the Tortoise Shell Tomb.
