About
The West Mountain of Guiping rises to 678 m on the western outskirts of Guiping, Guangxi, where the Qian, Yu and Xun rivers meet. Anciently called “the loveliest mountain under the southern sky”, it is known for strange rocks, fine trees, fragrant tea and sweet springs; the “half a mountain of Xun city” in the saying “Guilin’s scenery is finest under heaven, and there is half a mountain at Xun city besides” refers to it.
It has the Tang shrine of the censor Li, the Song Longhua Temple, the Qing Xishi Nunnery and Guanyin Rock temple, and the Zhongshan Pavilion. The Milk Spring by Longhua Temple, white and sweet, is a wonder of the mountain. Guiping West Mountain tea has been famous since the Tang.
The eight old views are autumn willows at the Official Bridge, winding stream at the Cloud Terrace, pines of the Loyal and Brave, the stone path in green cloud, zither notes of the Milk Spring, evening view from Longhua, bright moon at the Flying Pavilion and immortal traces in the old cave; the eight new views include green folds of Ling Lake, sunrise on the perilous peak and the Liansi waterfall.
