About
The Jiaodong Peninsula coastal scenic area in north-east Shandong includes Yantai, Penglai, Weihai, Chengshantou and the islands of Changshan, Heishan, Miao and Liugong, with beaches, sea-cut landforms and historic sites.
Penglai
Penglai is famous for mirages; its Water City is a well-preserved ancient naval base. On the summit of Danya Hill north-west of it stands the Penglai Pavilion, one of the four great towers of China.
The fourth stamp of the 1987 set T121 “Famous Towers of China” shows the Penglai Pavilion.

Weihai
Liugong Island at Weihai is a maritime stronghold where the Beiyang Fleet had its base.
Chengshantou
Chengshantou, the easternmost point of the Shandong Peninsula, also called “the end of the sky”, has a cliff coast. It has lately been renamed “the sky without end” for luck.
