About

Mount Dahong, also Lülin Mountain, lies where Jingshan, Zhongxiang and Suizhou meet in northern Hubei, the birthplace of the Lülin uprising at the end of the Western Han. The scenic area covers 350 km²; the main peak, Baozhu, is 1,055 m. Its features are cave systems and hot springs: “caves in the mountain, springs in the caves”.

There are more than 100 caves, 27 worth developing, the chief being Huangxian, Xianren, Shuangmen, Xiaoquan and Liangwang. Huangxian Cave in Zhongxiang, the core sight, is 2,000 m long with an entrance 100 m high and 70 m wide, full of stalactites, stone needles, columns, pagodas and waterfalls in red, yellow, white and brown. Xianren Cave, the largest, holds more than 150 rooms and can shelter tens of thousands of people; it has a “wind cave” and a “fire cave”.

Between Baozhu Peak, Xuangou Rock and Bijia Hill lies the White Dragon Pool at 800 m, with a four-tier waterfall of over 100 m below it.

Forest cover exceeds 80%: pine, cypress, nanmu, gingko, orchids and rhododendrons.
