About
Damao Mountain (大茅山风景名胜区) is a national park of China (eighth batch, designated by the State Council in 2012), located in Raoer Town, Dexing, Shangrao, Jiangxi.
The scenic area lies in the northeast of Dexing, Shangrao, reported by tourism sources to be in Raoer Town, and centres on Damaoshan and the Wufengdong gorge. Forest cover is high, with streams, waterfalls and gorges.
Listed sights include Wufengdong, Bijia Mountain, Sijiaoping and Shuangxi Lake; within the gorge the Xiangu Pool, Swan Lake and metasequoia woods are best known. A general's platform at the entrance is said to be linked to Huang Chao's rebel army. Damaoshan is also a Taoist mountain in Jiangxi.
Travel tips
About an hour by car from Dexing and about two hours from Shangrao. Allow a day. Summer is cool and autumn colours are good; there is a cableway, and gorge paths are slippery, so wear shoes with grip.
