About

Guifeng, also written Guifeng “Jade Peak”, lies on the southern edge of Yiyang County in north-east Jiangxi, 135 km² in all with a 25 km² core that looks from afar like a giant turtle. A Danxia landform, it is called the “showcase of Danxia”.

Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism meet here: the famous Ruixiang Temple, the Taoist Gexian Temple and the Confucian Dieshan Academy. Other sights are the Buddhist grottoes at Nanyan and Longmen Lake.

News

In 2004 what was billed as the world’s largest reclining Buddha appeared at Longmen Rock in the Guifeng area, 416 m long with a height difference of 68 m.

In November 2007 it was reported that the Danxia landform areas of Chishui (Guizhou), Langshan and Wanfoshan (Hunan), Mount Danxia (Guangdong), Jinhu (Fujian), Mount Longhu and Guifeng (Jiangxi) and Fangyan and Mount Jianglang (Zhejiang) would join in a combined nomination of China Danxia for World Heritage status.
