About
Guanshan Lianhuatai (关山莲花台风景名胜区) is a national park of China (ninth batch, designated by the State Council in 2017), located in Huating, Pingliang, Gansu.
The area is in the Guanshan (Longshan) range in the west of Huating, Pingliang, eastern Gansu, at about 1,520 to 2,764 m above sea level. It centres on Lianhuatai (Lotus Terrace) and is made up of seven sections: Lianhuatai, Xuanfeng Mountain, Wutai Mountain, Hailong Cave, Shigong Temple, the Ma'an ancient site and an ancient copper mine site. Huating changed from a county to a county-level city in 2018.
Lianhuatai is a natural rock terrace about 30 m high with a stone pillar on top, steep on both sides, named for its lotus-like shape. Forest cover is high, and the hills have Taoist and Buddhist sites, with cave sculptures at Shigong Temple.
Travel tips
About 1 hour by road from Pingliang to Huating, then into the hills. The sites are spread out, so allow a full day. Summer is cool and the forests turn colour in autumn; at this altitude mornings and evenings are cold, so bring a jacket.
