About
Mausoleum of the Yan Emperor (炎帝陵风景名胜区) is a national park of China (eighth batch, designated by the State Council in 2012), located in Luyuan Town, Yanling County, Zhuzhou, Hunan.
The scenic area lies in Luyuan Town, Yanling County, Zhuzhou, and centres on the Tomb of Emperor Yan. The county, formerly Ling County, was renamed Yanling in 1994 after the tomb.
The tomb is traditionally held to be the burial place of Yandi, the Divine Farmer, and rites there go back to the Han period. The grounds contain a gate, a ceremonial pavilion, the main hall and the tomb, among old trees. It was listed as a national key cultural heritage site in 2001, and ceremonies are held at Qingming, Chongyang and other dates.
Other sites in Shaanxi and Shanxi also honour Yandi; the one in Yanling, Hunan, is the one meant here.
Travel tips
About two hours from Zhuzhou to Yanling and about 15 minutes from the county town to the site. Allow half a day. Spring and autumn suit; ceremony days are crowded.
