About

Xianjingtai lies in Dehua township, Helong, Yanbian prefecture, Jilin, at the foot of the Changbai Mountains, 30 km from the city and 8 km from the Tumen River on the North Korean border; its sights are the Xianjing Terrace, Gaoli Peak and Camel Peak.

It is in the fourth batch of national parks of China (national scenic areas) named by the State Council in 2002.

Travel tips

Getting there: go first to Yanji, which has Chaoyangchuan Airport and a railway station, and then by road to Helong, about an hour. Xianjingtai is in Dehua Town, about 30 km from the city.

Location: the park is close to the Tumen River on the border, so carry your ID card.

Main sights: Xianjingtai, Goryeo Peak and Camel Peak are low mountains at the foot of the Changbai range; the visit is mainly forest scenery along mountain roads and paths.

Time: half a day to a day is enough, usually combined with a wider trip around Helong and Yanji.

Season: summer and autumn bring dense forest and good autumn colour; winter is long, snow is deep and mountain roads are difficult.

Where to stay: Helong or Yanji is more convenient; lodging around the park is limited.

Nearby: Fangchuan lies to the south and Changbai Mountain's Heaven Lake to the west, but each needs its own time.
