Famous grottoes

• The three great grottoes of China are:
• Mogao Caves, Dunhuang
• Longmen Grottoes, Luoyang
• Yungang Grottoes, Datong

Other famous grottoes include the Maijishan Grottoes and the Dazu Rock Carvings.

Stamps

• In 1988 China Post issued the definitive set R24 “Grotto Art of China”, four stamps:
• (1) 2 yuan, Yungang: Northern Wei great Buddha (30 Nov 1988)
• (2) 5 yuan, Longmen: Tang guardian (10 Aug 1988)
• (3) 10 yuan, Maijishan: Western Wei bodhisattva (15 Oct 1988)
• (4) 20 yuan, Dazu: Song girl feeding chickens (20 Oct 1988)
