    A national forest park in Luoning County covering 53 square kilometers and rising to 1,859 meters, known for its 'Great Stone Waterfall' rock formations, the largest natural lacebark pine community in western Henan, and an ancient bamboo forest. It was once a Taoist holy site.

    A national forest park in northwestern Song County comprising the Tianchi, Feilaishi, Yunüxi and Erlanggou areas; Feilaishi is noted for its rugged, striking rocks and Yunüxi for its secluded streams.

    One of the three landform units of the Wangwushan–Daimeishan Global Geopark, on the Yellow River in northern Xin'an County. The geopark, about 986 square kilometers in all, was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2006.

    A major water-control project at the mouth of the last gorge on the middle Yellow River, commanding 92.3 percent of the river's drainage basin. Built mainly for sediment control and flood prevention, with power generation secondary, it is a key project in the management of the Yellow River.

    The site of Luoyang, the Eastern Capital of the Sui and Tang dynasties, built under Emperor Yang of Sui on the model of Daxing. In use for over 500 years through the Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties and Northern Song, it was designated among China's first national archaeological site parks in 2010.

    Founded in 68 AD in the Eastern Han dynasty, it was the first Buddhist temple built after Buddhism reached China and is regarded as the cradle of Chinese Buddhism. It preserves many Yuan-dynasty dry-lacquer statues and was listed among the first national key protected cultural sites in 1961.

    Traditionally the burial place of Guan Yu's head, founded at the end of the Eastern Han and rebuilt in the Wanli era of the Ming. It is a Ming–Qing complex uniting tomb, temple and grove in one, and a national key protected cultural site.

    A peony garden inside Luopu Park on the Luo River, covering about 103 hectares on the site of the Sui–Tang city. It is China's largest peony viewing garden, with more than 1,000 varieties in nine color groups.

    Wan'an Mountain rises 937.3 meters and faces Mount Song in the distance. Its summit holds historic buildings including the White Dragon King Temple and Yuquan Temple, while the Shuiquan Grottoes and the tomb of Fan Zhongyan lie at its foot.

    A large reservoir formed by damming the Shi River, completed in 1955, with some 75 square kilometers of water; the dam face bears Mao Zedong's inscription 'The Huai River must be harnessed'. Its upper reaches are the main growing area of Xinyang Maojian tea, and Xianyin Temple, founded in the Southern Dynasties, stands on Xian Mountain by the lake.

    A scenic area in Lingshan Town, Luoshan County, with six zones including Lingshan Temple, Xiaoyao Cave, Golden Summit, Longya Temple and Jiuli Luoyan Lake. It covers about 61 square kilometers, its highest peak Ba Mountain reaching 827.7 meters, and was rated a national 4A tourist attraction in 2007.
  • Dasushan National Forest Park 大苏山国家森林公园 2017
    A national forest park southwest of Guangshan County, established in 2015 and covering 2,788 hectares. Dasu Mountain, formed by the stacked Xiaosu, Ersu and Dasu hills, is a sacred site of Chinese Buddhism, where the story of the 'enlightenment at Dasu' took place.

    Also known as the Henan Radio and Television Tower, it stands 388 meters tall (a 268-meter main body plus a 120-meter mast), making it the world's tallest all-steel television transmission tower. Completed in 2009, it combines broadcasting with sightseeing, exhibitions and dining.

    A scenic area themed on the hometown of the Yellow Emperor (Xuanyuan), it hosts the annual Ancestor Worship Ceremony at the Yellow Emperor's Hometown and was rated a national 4A tourist attraction in 2006.
  • Songyang Academy 嵩阳书院 2004
    One of the four great academies of the Song dynasty, backed by Junji Peak, the main summit of Mount Song. A Taoist and later Buddhist site in the Han and Tang periods, it became a Confucian academy in the Song, where the Neo-Confucian brothers Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi lectured.
  • Zhongyue Temple 中岳庙 2005
    A Taoist temple at the eastern foot of Taishi Mountain in Mount Song, founded in the Qin dynasty, where emperors of successive dynasties worshipped the god of the Central Sacred Mountain. It is the largest and best-preserved ancient building complex among the Five Sacred Mountains, and was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2010 as part of the Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in 'The Centre of Heaven and Earth'.

    A scenic area on the Yellow River northwest of central Zhengzhou, with the river to the north and Yue Mountain to the south. Once a barren stretch of the Mang Hills, it was afforested and furnished with pavilions and steles from the 1950s, and later became a national scenic area and 4A tourist attraction.

    The Wuhou Temple on Wolong Ridge in Nanyang, built between the Yuan and Qing dynasties, at a site thought possibly to be where Zhuge Liang farmed before entering public life. Beside it stands the Nanyang Han Pictorial Stone Museum, China's first museum of Han pictorial stones.

    A national nature reserve on the border of Neixiang and Nanzhao counties, covering 29,518 hectares to protect a transitional forest ecosystem and rare wildlife. It joined UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2001.
  • Neixiang County Government Office 内乡县衙 2005
    The best-preserved Qing-dynasty county government office in China, with buildings dating from the Guangxu era. It became the mainland's only county yamen museum in 1984, and is a national key protected cultural site and 4A tourist attraction.
  • Sheqi Shanxi-Shaanxi Guild Hall 社旗山陕会馆 2011
    A guild hall funded by Shanxi and Shaanxi merchants resident in Shedian Town, built over 136 years from the Qianlong to the Guangxu reign of the Qing. It is the grandest and best-preserved of China's surviving guild halls, listed as a national key protected cultural site in 1988.
  • Xiangyan Temple 香严寺 2012
    An ancient temple in the Baiya Mountains of Xichuan County, founded under Emperor Daizong of Tang. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang took refuge here before his accession. It is ranked with Shaolin, Baima and Xiangguo as one of China's four great temples.
  • Wuduoshan 五朵山 2012
    A Taoist mountain on the border of Nanzhao and Zhenping counties with five peaks standing together, the highest, Shengduo, at 1,665 meters. Yin Xi and the Tang Taoist Wu Yun are said to have practiced here, and it was once as renowned as Wudang Mountain.

    A famous pass of ancient China, located southwest of the old town of Lingbao. Named for its road running through a deep, box-like gorge, it is counted with Yanmen, Xianxia and Jianmen among the four great ancient passes of China.
  • Shuanglongwan Scenic Area 双龙湾风景区 2014
    A mountain-and-river scenic area in Lushi County covering 50 square kilometers, named for its two peaks, the Big and Small Dragon Heads. It is a national 4A tourist attraction.
  • West Henan Grand Canyon 豫西大峡谷 2006
    A gorge along the Hanchuanyu River in Lushi County, over 30 kilometers long and up to 200 meters deep, with 99 waterfalls and more than 300 pools; the largest, Dacongtan Falls, drops about 40 meters. It was rated a national 4A tourist attraction in 2006.
  • Zhongliu Dizhu Scenic Area 中流砥柱景区 2023
    A scenic area centered on the Sanmenxia Dam, the first large water-control project built on the main stem of the Yellow River after 1949, completed in 1961. The rock pillar in the river below the dam is the 'Dizhu' of the idiom 'mainstay in midstream'.

    A folk storytelling gathering held south of Baofeng county seat on the 13th day of the first lunar month each year, where performers converge to present more than 40 genres such as Jingyun dagu and Shandong qinshu. It was inscribed on the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006.

    The only surviving Ming-dynasty government office in China, founded in 1396. The main hall dates from the Ming, while most other buildings were rebuilt in the Qing. It was listed as a national key protected cultural site in 2006.

Baling Bridge, also called Eight-Li Bridge, is by tradition where Guan Yu took leave of Cao Cao; the original stone bridge is gone, but a stele erected by the late-Ming general Zuo Liangyu remains.

    An old town southwest of Yuzhou, the birthplace of Jun porcelain and known as the 'capital of Jun ware'. It was named a Chinese historical and cultural town in 2005 and among the first Chinese characteristic towns in 2016.

    A temple in Tangyin County commemorating Yue Fei, rebuilt in 1450 in the Ming dynasty. Its mostly Ming-era buildings include the Jingzhong Archway, the main hall and a shrine to the tattooing of Yue Fei's back by his mother. It was listed as a national key protected cultural site in 2001.
  • Chinese Characters Museum 中国文字博物馆 2023
    A museum devoted to the written word, combining conservation, exhibition and research. It is the world's first national-level museum whose principal collection is writing itself, with 34,500 square meters of floor space.
  • Cao Cao Gaoling Tomb Site Museum 曹操高陵遗址博物馆 2024
    A museum built around the Gaoling Mausoleum of Cao Cao. The location of Cao Cao's tomb was a mystery for nearly two millennia until it was archaeologically confirmed in 2009 at Xigaoxue Village in Anyang County; it was listed as a national key protected cultural site in 2013.

    An ancient city site in Hualong District, Puyang, listed among the first Henan provincial protected cultural sites in 1961 and as a national key protected cultural site in 1996.
  • Cangjie Mausoleum 仓颉陵 2023
    An earthen mound in Shiguan Village, Nanle County, believed to be the tomb of Cangjie, the legendary inventor of Chinese characters, with a temple beside it. Beneath the tomb and temple lies the Neolithic Shiguan site, a national key protected cultural site.

  • Xu Shen Culture Park 许慎文化园 2014
    A memorial park for Xu Shen, the Eastern Han classicist and philologist, containing his tomb. The 5-meter mound is fronted by steles erected in the Shunzhi, Kangxi and Guangxu reigns of the Qing.
  • Shali River 沙澧河 2012
    A ribbon-shaped scenic area stretching 36 kilometers along the Sha and Li rivers through central Luohe. Built on the city's flood-control works, it combines ecological and cultural tourism functions, and is a national 4A tourist attraction and national water-conservancy scenic area.
  • Nanjie Village 南街村 2006
    An administrative village south of Linying county seat, 1.78 square kilometers in area with over 3,000 Hui and Han residents. It became known for maintaining a collective economy and Mao Zedong Thought during the reform era.
  • Xiaoshang Bridge 小商桥 2014
    A single-arch stone bridge in Shangqiao Village, Linying County, nicknamed the 'Sui Arch Bridge'. First built in 584 AD, earlier than the Zhaozhou Bridge, its present form dates to the early Northern Song. It was listed as a national key protected cultural site in 2001.
  • Jiahu Site Museum 贾湖遗址博物馆 2023
    A museum based on the Jiahu site, a Neolithic Peiligang-culture settlement dating back 9,000 to 7,700 years. Finds include bone flutes that can still be played, incised symbols on tortoise shells, and traces of rice cultivation and brewing. The site was listed as a national key protected cultural site in 2001.

  • Shangqiu Ancient Culture Tourism Area 商丘古文化旅游区 2006
    A tourism area centered on the ancient city of Shangqiu, also called Guide Prefecture city, the historic core of the Ming–Qing prefecture. Surrounded by water, it is round outside and square within, and overlies earlier cities such as the Song state capital and Han–Tang Suiyang, a layering known as 'city upon city'.
  • Wanggongzhuang 王公庄 2021
    A village in Minquan County where about half of its 1,600 residents are painters, specializing in tigers. Known as 'China's foremost tiger-painting village', it is one of the country's ten famous painting and calligraphy villages.
  • Shangqiu Museum 商丘博物馆 2025
    A comprehensive local museum of Shangqiu, established in October 1983.

    A temple to Guan Yu built in the Qing dynasty with funds from Shanxi and Shaanxi merchants trading in Zhoukou, formerly also called the Shanxi–Shaanxi Guild Hall. Grand and richly ornamented, it was listed as a national key protected cultural site in 1996.
  • Xiange Terrace 弦歌台 2024
    Also called E Terrace or the Shrine of Exhausted Provisions, a Confucian temple southwest of the old city of Huaiyang commemorating the episode when Confucius ran out of food between Chen and Cai during his travels. It is a national key protected cultural site.

  • Wangwu Mountain 王屋山 2005
    Also called Tiantan Mountain, a national scenic area northwest of Jiyuan. Ranked first among the ten Taoist grotto-heavens in the Han–Wei period, it has a stone altar on its summit said to be where the Yellow Emperor sacrificed to Heaven, and is the setting of the fable of the Foolish Old Man who moved mountains.

    An academy founded by Fan Zhongyan while prefect of Dengzhou in the Qingli era of the Song, beside the old city wall. Named for the Hundred Flowers Islet to its east, it is where Fan wrote his famous 'Memorial to Yueyang Tower'. It is a national 4A tourist attraction.
