About

The Caishi scenic area on the Yangtze at Ma’anshan, Anhui, is centred on the Caishi promontory and the memorials of the poet Li Bai. The promontory is the first of the three great rock promontories of the Yangtze, between Wuhu and Nanjing; Li Bai’s tomb is nearby.

It is in the fourth batch of national parks of China (national scenic areas) named by the State Council in 2002.

Travel tips

Getting there: Caishi Rock is on the Yangtze at the southwest of Ma'anshan, Anhui. From Nanjing the train to Ma'anshan takes roughly half an hour to an hour, and Ma'anshan East has high-speed service; from the city take a bus or taxi to the park.

Caishi Rock: a rock jutting into the Yangtze where the river is narrow and fast, the first of the river's three rocks, with views of the river and the far bank.

Li Bai sites: the rock has the Taibai Tower and a Li Bai memorial hall, with many carved poems linked to him; Li Bai's tomb is in Dangtu County and is a separate trip.

Time: half a day is enough for the rock; adding the tomb takes most of a day.

Season: spring and autumn are best; summer is hot and humid by the river; winter river winds are cold.

Where to stay: Ma'anshan city is the most convenient, or stay in Nanjing and return the same day.

Nearby: Mount Zhong in Nanjing lies to the east, Wuhu to the south and Wujiang in He County to the northwest.
