This list came from an online public vote organised by the Ministry of Construction in 2007, one of the events marking 25 years of China’s national parks (national scenic areas). Voting closed on 25 August 2007, and these ten were chosen:
- Huangshan
- Mount Emei
- Mount Wudang
- Mount Wuyi
- East Lake, Wuhan
- Mount Lu
- Mount Heng (Hunan)
- Longmen Grottoes, Luoyang
- Shunan Bamboo Sea
- Badaling Great Wall
As an internet vote, the result shows only the preferences of those who took part, and it is of limited use as a guide. East Lake in Wuhan does not match West Lake in Hangzhou in standing, nor the southern Mount Heng Mount Tai, while leading areas such as Jiuzhaigou, Zhangjiajie and the Li River at Guilin are missing.
